Obviously we know about the Mandalorian, but we have a whole extended universe they're building off of it.

The first spin-off is TBoBF

It was cool seeing Boba in the Mandalorian, but I'm still wondering about the whole "Honorable Gangster" angle. I mean, it's a criminal empire that deals drugs, sells sex slaves and kills the competition. It seems a little idealistic trying to put a "good guy" spin to it.

Put it this way, don't governments throughout history do the same things when it all boiled down? Cigarettes, oxycodone, fentanyl, alcohol, porn, escorts, etc.

Labeling things as either criminal or gangster is just fear mongering, since the biggest gang always forms the government.

As for killing the competitions, we've had enough wars just in our lifetimes, nevermind all history to prove that wars are only fought to control international economies.

I haven't seen this show, but it looks pretty good. They honorable angle is never old, because honour always applies in every aspect of life. Good guy bad guy usually just changes according to which gang you support - Democrats are the Crips, Republicans are the Bloods...etc.

Anyone else starting to reach saturation point?
Not just with Star Wars spinoffs, but Star Trek and Marvel. They're churning out these shows like they're working in the silent hey day of Hollywood. A new one released or announced every couple of weeks.

I smell PUSSY!
Jaye: Yup. I haven't watched Marvel (in a theater) since Avengers: Endgame. Star Wars was The Last Jedi. I think the last Star Trek was Enterprise - until they started with the soft porn thing between the hottie female Klingon and the Engineer.

I did see "A Quiet Place Part II" in the theater once stuff started opening up, and I really liked it (as well as the first one).

I've been doing indie film festivals via streaming, for the most part.

I wouldn't be so annoyed if there weren't so many social justice issues being forced into the stories.

Unless you're retired or not working, I don't think you could practically keep up with every show & movie. And if you did, like Jaye says, you'd be burnt out to the point where it's not fun.

That's why I think it's important to pick & choose the ones that interest you. Even if everything is interconnected, it's not like you need to watch everything to understand each show. With the arrowverse, I kept up with Flash and a arrow, then picked a couple of supergirl eps now and then. I think I tried out Legends and didn't even bother with Batwoman. And it was still good. I enjoyed the crossovers just as much as anyone, and it wasn't hard to fill in the gaps.

Book of Boba Fett is off to a good start. It's like the Mandalorian without baby Yoda. Looks like they're going to tell the story of what happened to Boba from Return of the Jedi until the present, where he's taken over Jabba's empire and now feuding with the other Hutts.

But wow, they are not shying away from making the Tusken Raiders an analogue for Native Americans.

I couldn't quite get the image of Richard Harris in "A man called horse" out of my head while watching the first two episodes.

For you uncultured young people.

I always thought/heard it was more inspired by Japanese movies.
I know the Jedi/Sith are Samurai, even though "Sith" is Gaelic. That bit's probably a coincidence though.

You're right. Lucas himself has said that the original Star Wars was based on the Kurosawa/Mifune Samurai classic "The Hidden Fortress".

You're not the only one. Everything down to the initiation ritual.
If the original SW was based on Samurai films, the new series are definitely based on Westerns.

It seems like these shows can't match initial fan reaction they got to the Mandalorian. I guess that goes to show the power of baby Yoda.

I didn't realize that Leia was going to play such a big role. If anything, you'd think Luke would have been the star child character.
It was good and kept me interested, but wow the "annoying kid" act started getting old pretty quickly. And how could 3 adult bounty hunters not keep up with a 10 year-old?

...And yes, the ending to the above trailer isn't clickbait - they are bringing back
Vader
.

Anyone watch Ms. Marvel? I'm trying to decide if it's worth getting into.

Anyone else end up watching Obi-wan?
It wasn't awesome, but at least it gave us some background on the Vader/Kenobi feud between the movies.
One thing that really annoyed me is how NO ONE seemed to make sure the person you wanted to kill was dead. In fact, on most occasions they made it clear they weren't going to finish them off, and just leave their opponent there, knowing full well they were going to come back for revenge some day.

Seems like Disney is making babysitting a key part of their shows now. At least that is going to bring us Mandalorian S3.

Andor dropped today. It's... a prequel to a spinoff (Rouge One).

We'll see how well the show will do without Baby Yoda or established characters like Obi & Vader.

I just started it, and in the opening scene the main character kills a cop who is begging for his life. So, yeah. It's different.

Any cop killing anywhere is alright by me✊
